Radio Cardiff (98.7 FM) is Cardiff’s radio station, serving the capital of Wales. We broadcast locally on 98.7 FM and by live streaming on the Radio Cardiff website. Radio Cardiff 98.7 FM began live broadcasting on Monday 8 October 2007. The formal opening of the studios in Butetown, Cardiff took place on 25 October 2007 in an event attended by Rt. Hon. Rhodri Morgan AM (First Minister of the Welsh Assembly Government) and Rodney Berman (Leader of Cardiff County Council).

Radio Cardiff is classed as a community radio station, which is a type of radio service that offers broadcasting beyond commercial and public service. They broadcast content that is popular and relevant to a local and specific audience which can often be overlooked.

Radio Cardiff allows individuals, groups, and communities to tell their own diverse stories, to share experiences, and to become active and contributors of the media. As with many community radio stations, the workforce is voluntary. Within this the Station has a varied mixture of over 50 presenters, talented news readers, journalists, researchers and budding sound engineers of all ages and cultures. Helping to keep Cardiff informed, entertained and involved in their local community radio station.

 

They specialise in playing MOBO (Music Of Black Origin) and features reggae; soul; funk; jazz; soca; calypso; world music: bhangra; hip-hop; R&B; house music and drum & bass. It also include songs from the UK and American Charts.

 

The regular schedule of Radio Cardiff is made up of local news bulletins, and a daily magazine programme broadcast featuring community news and information; local sports coverage; a programme presented & produced by 12-18 year olds and a show by students from the University of Glamorgan and a weekly programme for Cardiff's Somali community.
